Why alerts matter

Smart Accumulator runs continuously in the background on your TradingView chart — but you won't always be watching. Alerts let the system notify you in real time the moment a Smart Zone triggers, so you can review the signal, check your available bucket balance, and act with confidence. Alerts can be delivered via push notification, email, or webhook depending on your TradingView plan.

Large
Large Smart Zone
Long-term timeframe
Rare — fires on significant long-term statistical anomalies. Highest conviction signal.
Medium
Medium Smart Zone
Medium-term timeframe
Moderate frequency — core structured accumulation signal. Reliable and repeatable.
Small
Small Smart Zone
Short-term timeframe
More frequent — opportunistic short-term signal. Smaller capital deployment.
Part One

Creating Your Alerts

You will create up to four alerts — one per zone, plus an optional catch-all. The process is identical for each. Follow these steps for the Large zone first, then repeat for Medium and Small.

1
Open the Alerts panel

On your chart, click the clock icon in the right-hand toolbar (or press Alt + A on Windows / ⌥ A on Mac). Click + New Alert to open the alert dialog.

2
Set the Condition source

In the Condition dropdown, scroll to find Smart Accumulator by Tom Makin in the list of indicators on your chart.

3
Select the alert condition

A second dropdown appears. Select one of the four available alert conditions:

Alert NameWhen it fires
🟢 Large Smart Zone SignalLong-term Smart Zone triggered
🟡 Medium Smart Zone SignalMedium-term Smart Zone triggered
⚪ Small Smart Zone SignalShort-term Smart Zone triggered
📊 Any Smart Zone SignalAny of the above — catch-all alert

For this first alert, select 🟢 Large Smart Zone Signal.

4
Set trigger frequency

Under Options, set the frequency to Once Per Bar Close. This ensures alerts fire on confirmed signals only — not during an in-progress bar that may resolve before it closes.

Alert Options
TriggerOnce Per Bar Close
ExpirationOpen-ended
💡

Why Once Per Bar Close? Smart Zone conditions are evaluated at the close of each bar. Using this setting prevents false notifications from intra-bar price movements that recover before the bar closes.

5
Name the alert and set the message

Give each alert a descriptive name so you can identify it instantly. Use the recommended message templates below — the {{...}} values are filled in automatically by TradingView when the alert fires.

Recommended: Enable both App notification and Email. Push notifications give instant awareness; email gives you a searchable record of every signal.

Save and repeat for remaining zones

Click Create to save. Repeat steps 1–7 for the Medium and Small zones. When complete you will have three active zone alerts plus optionally a catch-all.

💡

Multiple tickers: Repeat the full process for each asset you are tracking. Include the ticker name in your alert name (e.g. "🟢 AAPL — Large Smart Zone") so you know which asset triggered at a glance.

Part Two

When an Alert Fires — What to Do

An alert is a notification to review — not an automatic instruction. Smart Accumulator has already simulated the deployment in the indicator. The alert is your prompt to check the chart and optionally act in your real brokerage account.

Quick review checklist

Check your available bucket balance

Open the chart and look at the dashboard. The Available Cash section shows how much remains in each bucket. This tells you the scale of capital the system would deploy.

Confirm the zone is still active

The alert fires at bar close. If price has already bounced significantly since the close, the entry may be less optimal. Check whether the zone band is still nearby.

Check your VWAP Alpha

Glance at the Alpha row. If you are already accumulating well below VWAP, this signal adds to a strong position. Use your own judgement to size accordingly.

Act in your brokerage at your discretion

Smart Accumulator does not execute real trades. Use the signal as a guide for your actual buy order. The indicator shows you the opportunity — the decision is always yours.

Part Three

Troubleshooting

I'm not receiving notifications

Check that the alert is still active and not paused or expired in your Alerts panel. Verify that TradingView push notifications are enabled in your phone's system notification settings.

I received an alert but can't see a triangle on the chart

Alerts fire at bar close. If you check your chart mid-bar after receiving the notification, the triangle will appear once that bar officially closes. Refresh the chart after the bar has closed.

The Small zone alert fires too frequently

This is expected — the Small zone is the most sensitive and responds to short-term conditions. If you find it disruptive, disable the Small zone alert and monitor it visually on the chart instead. Focus your active alerts on the Large and Medium zones.

My alert expired

When creating the alert ensure Expiration is set to Open-ended. Free TradingView accounts have alert limits — if you need multiple simultaneous alerts across several tickers, an Essential plan or higher is recommended.

⚠️

TradingView plan limits: Free accounts support 1 active alert at a time. To run all four alerts across multiple tickers simultaneously, a TradingView Essential plan or higher is recommended.
